Designer: Varun Loht
Varun Loht’s journey from a U-19 cricketer representing Delhi at State level, to a fashion designer is unconventional and something you only hear of in movies. Lacking any education or prior experience , Varun’s first foray in the fashion industry was with Indian bridal wear.
A natural learner and keen observer, he decided to teach himself the finer workings of the trade by spending months with the karigars and craftspeople of Chandni Chowk, Delhi. He was inspired by the likes of Giorgio Armani and Versace to make an impact in the fashion industry, he met his collaborator and fellow creator, Vidushi in the year 2010 and the two decided to start their couture label, VAR – SHI.
Using his skill and learnings of the craft of Indian wear, Varun decided to play with western silhouettes and patterns inspired by his travels around the world in VAR-SHI first collection Neo Femme A/W 16-17 at India Runway week.
A minimalist in his approach, he draws inspiration from world art, history and architecture and loves playing with depth in his designs. Apart from designing, Varun loves numbers and enjoys managing the business aspect of the label. Hence he is the brain behind the brand.
